Shake your maracas!

For sometime now clients, friends and my lovely neighbour Karen has been recommending that I try Zumba!  Time can be an issue for me as my workload often dictates when I am free to attend classes.  I caught an info-mercial on TV a few weeks ago and was persuaded to part with £39 for a selection of Zumba dvd's and more importantly some shakers (just like shaking you maracas!!!).

I eagerly awaited by box of goodies and immediately put one of the dvd's on to try!  I had my grandson with me at the time and he was not the least bit impressed as I shook my booty and rocked my groove...!  I think user error may have been at fault as I have had a slightly tricky hip and a dull ache in the small of my back since.  It would appear that my girating along with Beto, the founder of Zumba may have been a little too enthusiastic for a first attempt!

However, I am not one to give up easily so I will persevere and see where the rhythm takes me....!

This is what Zumba UK says:

The Zumba program fuses mesmerising Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow dance steps combined with workout moves to create a unique fitness program that will blow you away.  The music gets your feet tapping and your heart thumping! Mixing all Latin genres of music with all Latin styles of dance such as Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, Samba, Cha Cha, Cumbia, Reaggaeton, Flamenco even Bollywood and more.  Zumba is all about the music, dancing and having fun.  Zumba enthusiasts achieve long-term benefits while experiencing a total blast in one exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!  It’s ridiculous not to be captivated by this Zumba craze!  This is the new fitness hype all around the world!   Not only does Zumba help you remain active, fresh and alive throughout the day, it decreases stress levels and makes you feel more energetic and happy.  The best thing is that it helps you postpone the aging process, what a bonus!
Every Zumba lesson is one big party, you don’t even notice you are actually working out and losing weight, it’s just like going to the club!   No demanding choreography!   Zumba is there for everybodywho loves up tempo music.  During the warming up you immediately get blown away by the invigorating Latin Dance music. Up tempo and slow rhythms interchange each other.  Zumba is addictive and you want more each time.

Its early days but this is one bug I wouldn't mind being bitten by and if all else fails I can still shake my maracas!

The flow of abundance....!

Another new week has arrived!  Welcome to Monday Mantra.  I have been researching the work of Joe Vitale and looking at his wealth programme.  Therefore it felt fitting to work on a mantra from this research.

"I magnetise prosperity to me with ease and I am abundantly supplied at all times!"

The newspapers, television programmes and politician would have us living in a state of fear regarding money.  Their constant negative reporting on recession, lack and talk of another great depression goes along way to create negative feelings about our own prosperity and abundance.

Successful businesses are going bust, high street stores report huge losses, the property market has taken a downward slide and the banks are exerting caution on lending.  All of this creates an air of belief that there is a lack of financial security for us all.  However.......if you choose not to buy into the frenzy of fear, you can find yourself feeling rather flush and affluent!

Manifesting abundance into your life is easy if you believe you are worthy and if you believe in a little magic.  Abundance isn't just about increased financial flow, abundance brings more.....more time, more opportunities, more creativity, more happiness, more contentment, more of all the good things you would like to attract!

(I would like to let you into a secret, whilst writing this blog, the phone rang and a booking was made for an event that certainly increases my own financial flow......that was fast even by by my manifesting standards!!!!)

Try working with this mantra and see a significant increase in your prosperity and abundance.

Love and Blessings,

I am what I am...!

This is a well known song but it encapsulates everything I am trying to currently live by and encouraging others to do so too.  The writer of this song embraces their true magnificence and is happy to shout it out to the world.

So clear your throat, take a deep breath, throw a feather boa around your neck (entirely optional) and in your best Shirley Bassey voice sing........

I am what I am
I am my own special creation
So come take a look
Give me the hook
Or the ovation
It's my world
That I want to have a little pride
My world
And it's not a place I have to hide in
Life's not worth a dam
Till I can say
I am what I am

I am what I am
I don't want praise I don't want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think it's noise I think it's pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not see things from a different angle
Your life is a shame
Till you can shout out I am what I am

I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am

I am what I am

I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am

I am I am I am good
I am I am I am strong
I am I am I am worthy
I am I am I belong

I am

I am

Who whoooo etc.
I am

I am I am I am useful
I am I am I am true
I am I am somebody
I am as good as you

Yes I am

Well wallow then.....!

I had a particularly lovely day on Tuesday!  I was in that lovely place of peaceful contentment, happy with my lot.  I was  feeling very positive about the world and life in general.  As I merrily prepared the dinner for Mr T coming home, I was looking forward to seeing his happy face coming through the door!

Well Mr T did come through the door but his face was not happy!  He had received a congestion charge of £75 from a recent trip to London.  He has a Prius which has previously been exempt from such charges but due to a change in the law in January, he was obliged to pay.  To say he was not a happy chappy is an understatement.  He grumbled through dinner, moaned through dessert and huffed through his cup of tea.

I tried to cajole him out of his strop, I told him to look on the positive side, I told him to be glad that he can afford to pay it.  I told him not to let it spoil his day.  I advised him not to be negative about money as he could bring more bills his way.  All of my good intentioned advice was met with frowns, growls and I am sure I saw a gnashing of teeth when he told me that it has spoiled his day!

It suddenly dawned on me that sometimes we don't want to be pulled out of a bad mood, sometimes we just want to wallow and moan and groan..........for a little while at least!  Sometimes you just have to feel the emotion and come out of it when you are good and ready. I do believe my happy, chirpy disposition may be adding to his misery.

So....I have come in to write my blog and left Mr Grumpy to wallow for an hour or so. I say wallow, as this is what Paul McGee suggests you do when you have had a set back.  This is taken from his book SUMO (Shut up and Move On) which interestingly was bought for me by Mr. T.!

"So what can we do and who should we turn to when we suffer a setback? I’m known as ‘The S.U.M.O. Guy’ because I teach people to Shut Up, Move On! I show people how to Shut up and stop thinking and behaving in a way that hinders their success and to move forward with their lives. Some people believe that is all we need to do after a setback, Shut Up, Move On. However, for many of us, part of the process of moving involves us first having what I term ‘Hippo Time’. Hippo Time is when we allow ourselves some time out to wallow (as hippos do in mud) and to acknowledge our frustration and disappointment and perhaps even anger. We’re not robots. We cannot simply turn our emotions on and off at the flick of a switch. What Hippo Time does, is give you the opportunity to experience your emotional lows and to be honest about those feelings

However, in order to make Hippo Time a helpful rather than a harmful experience, make
sure you avoid three kinds of people:
1. ‘The Hijackers’. These are the people who take over your Hippo Time with comments such as “I know how you feel, the same thing happened to me”
2. ‘The Awfulisers’. These people give too much sympathy and can make you feel even worse about your situation. They say things such as “That’s terrible, you must feel awful ……. I had a friend with an in-growing toe nail and he had to have his toe removed!”
3. ‘The Happies’. These are the ‘I’m really positive but I have no grasp of reality’ people. You lose your legs in an accident and they smile sincerely and say “At least you’ve still got your arms”. Or your partner finishes your relationship and they reply “Well, plenty more fish in the sea"

How To Make Hippo Time A Helpful Experience?
1. Allow yourself to ‘feel bad’. It’s actually OK to feel down. Give yourself permission to do so.
2. Be careful who you speak to. Find someone who will listen without feeling obliged to offer advice.
3. Avoid hasty decisions. Allow yourself time to work through your feelings before taking action.
4. Learn from it. Whatever you’ve experienced, from a missed sale to a failed relationship, there is always something to learn. Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this experience?”
5. Treat yourself. This does not equate to binge shopping, but a small treat can be the ideal ‘pick me up’. You’re then in a better frame of mind to move forward.
6. Treat others. Do something positive for someone else for no particular reason. You’ll feel an ‘inner satisfaction’ for having done so. Feeling good about yourself prevents you slipping into pity party mode.
7. Change the record. It’s not helpful to tell too many people about your issue. You can end up sounding like a broken record. Remember to re-tell is to re-live and that is not always helpful.
8. Make space. You may need time simply to be alone with your thoughts, as opposed to talking through your issue with others. Personal ‘alone time’ may well be the order of the day.
9. Decide on desirable distractions. Perhaps what you need is to stop thinking about your issue altogether. Watch a movie, take some exercise or surf the net. When you do decide to re-focus, you often have a fresh perspective on your situation.
10. Write down your ‘downs’. Putting your thoughts and feelings down on paper can be a helpful way of off loading and working through your issue. Seeing things on paper can create a sense of clarity as well as being an honest account of how you’re feeling at the time. You’re then in a position to decide how best to move on.

Whichever of the above helps, remember this - Hippo Time is temporary. Successful people make sure they don’t spend too long wallowing and realise that setbacks are temporary, but quitting lasts a life time.

See more of Paul's work at http://www.thesumoguy.com/default.aspx

(I think I may have been one of those annoying "Happies" this evening!)

I think I will resist asking him if he can find the gift in this situation!!! I can just imagine the response!

It's your life...!

As a coach, I speak to a lot of people who want to make huge changes in their lives.  However, more often than not they come up with lots of reasons why it is not possible to make the changes happen.  Very often they blame their partner, their parents, their children and their boss at work.  They put obstacles in the way of the very dreams they wish to achieve.

These people are not taking ownership of their lives, they are handing over their power to others and playing small in life.  They feel like victims who have no strength or conviction to overcome these hurdles.  Chris Widener is a coach who has written a really good article on this very subject.

Take Ownership of Your Life
Chris Widener

There are lots of things we desire to own in this life, aren’t there? Many of them are fine and dandy, as the saying goes. But there is the most important thing we own that many people never think about owning, and that is their life! They spend a lot of time thinking about the next set of golf clubs, a vacation home, or a new piece of jewelry, but they never really understand that they own their life. Whenever it comes time to be responsible, they end up placing the blame somewhere else, rather than realizing that they are the owner and so they are responsible! With that in mind, here are some thoughts about the ownership your have of your life:
You only own one person – you.
You don’t own your spouse. You don’t own your boss. You don’t own your kids (with kids, you are in charge of them, given the tremendous responsibility of teaching them to own their own lives, but you don’t own them). No, there is only one person you own, and that is you. That is great news! Now you don’t have to worry about running anybody else’s life! This is a temptation for us isn’t it? We just know how everybody else should do it and with many of them we try to take ownership and run their life! Well, hands off! Take control of your own life since it is the only one you own. You wouldn’t try to drive somebody else’s car from the grocery store parking lot, so don’t try to drive their life either! You own you – so stick to you!
You get to choose what to do with only one person – you.
Once you have come to realize that you only own you, you get to get to the fun part – running your life and making it what you want it to be. Instead of choosing what other people should do, you get to focus in on choosing what you get to do. You get to begin to shape and mold your life. This is exciting! Aren’t you glad you don’t have to run everybody else’s lives anymore? I am!
Your ownership means that you can do what you want with yourself. Your life is a blank sheet of paper. You can choose whatever you want to do. You can have whatever profession you want. You can earn as much money as you desire. You can marry whoever suits your fancy (as long as you suit their fancy too by the way). Stop wishing and start choosing. I like to use the example of a person who is thirty years old and doesn’t like their income. I tell them that if the so chose, they could go back to school, get a degree, go to medical school and by age forty be in a high-income profession. Then they would have 25 years of high wages to support the lifestyle they desire. You can choose whatever you want and take whatever actions you choose to rectify any situation you are in!
Your ultimate destination in life is set by you, not somebody else.
Where will you end up? Wherever you choose to end up. You will do well to get it in your mind that someday you will be seventy years old and you will be at a certain place and the only thing that got you there was the choices you made all along the way. Imagine that. If you are thirty, you have forty years – FORTY YEARS – of choices that can put you right where you want to be at the end of your life! So you’re fifty-five? Who cares? You probably have at least twenty years left! You still have TWENTY YEARS to get yourself to whatever destination you choose. Do you know what a person can do in twenty years? ALMOST ANYTHING THEY SET THEIR HEART ON!
The responsibility for your life, and what you accomplish, is found in one person – you.
You will accomplish what you choose to accomplish. You will make and save as much money as you choose to. You will write as many books as you choose to. You will take as many vacations as you choose to. You will have the kind of relationships you choose to. What you accomplish is up to you! Take that seriously!
Focus on your values and live them out, regardless of what other people do. This is key. We do not live our lives in a vacuum. We need to be very thoughtful about what we believe, about what our values are, and what our morality is. These things will all shape how we go about exerting ownership of our lives. But once we have come to understand these things for ourselves, the power to live our lives increases tremendously. Now it doesn’t matter what anybody else does. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances are. We live out of our morality, values and beliefs. These are the principles that transcend everything else and enable us to set our course!
I know this seems like a lot of responsibility, but I consider it a freedom and a privilege! We get one life to live and we get to shape it however we want. That is one job I want to take seriously and not mess up! With diligence, hard work, and a lot of right decisions, I’ll get to the end of my life deeply fulfilled. I hope you will to

Truly gifted!

Happy New Week!

Today's Monday Mantra is "I recognise and trust my intuitive ability!"

"You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover is yourself.” Alan Alda

We are all incredibly intuitive souls.  We are spiritual beings experiencing a human existence.  We are all born equally gifted with the four "clairs."

Clairvoyance - Clear sight, we can all see the future, spirits and Angels.
Clair audience - Clear Hearing, we can all hear messages from spirit, Angels and our own inner self.
Clairsentience - Clear Feeling, we can all feel when spirit and Angels are with us.
Clair cognizance - Clear knowing, we all know the answers to our own questions.

Although we are all born equal and gifted, we rarely tap into this universal wisdom within ourselves.  We believe that only a special few are chosen to be gifted.  We believe that those who hear voices are best seeing a medical professional as something is seriously amiss!!

Inside each of us in an unlimited amount of knowledge, expertise and wisdom.  No one will ever know what is best for you other than YOU!

Meditation helps to quieten the mind chatter long enough for you to really listen to your inner guidance.  Try sitting quietly and ask yourself about your life purpose, your relationships, your career, your future or your dreams.  What comes to you is not your imagination speaking, fanciful thinking or something alien, it really will be your own inner intuition.  Try not to force anything to happen, just be open and willing to hear, feel, see or know what you are trying to tell yourself.

Inner wisdom is always positive and uplifting and everything suggested will be for your highest good and purpose.  If you have a negative experience it is probably your ego or lack of self belief that is present.

If you listen carefully, it will not only be me that you hear telling you that you are truly magnificent, it will be your own inner voice cheering you on to greater things.

Love and Blessings,

A prayer for Madeleine

This blog is dedicated to Madeleine McCann and her family.  I simply offer up a prayer for this family who have lived in daily torment since the disappearance of their beautiful child.  Their faith and quiet composure are an inspiration to us all as they bear their worst fears with grace and dignity.

This prayer is taken from Peace 4 the Missing website.

Dear Lord,

We ask of you,
keep these children safe and sound,
let no harm come before they are found.
They are lost from their family,
from the ones they love,
return them home,
and protect them from above.
Place your loving arms around them today,
guide them safely back home,
to You this we pray.
Amen.

Loving Blessings are sent to this beautiful child and her family.
